“Jone, Batzuetan”: Sara Fantova’s Feature Debut Hits Cinemas on September 12

Bilbao-born director Sara Fantova (Bilbao, 1993) presents her feature debut, Jone, Batzuetan, an emotional coming-of-age story that follows Jone, a 20-year-old festival performer from Kaskagorri. The film explores her first love with Olga while she confronts the accelerated progression of her father’s Parkinson’s disease, making for an unforgettable summer during Bilbao’s Semana Grande. Between the feeling of immortality she shares with Olga and her struggle to understand her father’s unique way of coping with illness, Jone discovers that the child she once was is slowly transforming into the adult she is destined to become.

The production was shot during Semana Grande 2023, making it the first film ever filmed during the festival, with all the challenges this entails, including real scenes of the txupinazo fireworks.

The film has already received recognition at major festivals: it won a Special Jury Mention for Directing at the 2025 Málaga Film Festival, the Best Film award in the “Un Impulso Colectivo” section at the D’A Film Festival Barcelona 2025, and was officially selected for the Panorama España section at the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria International Film Festival 2025.
