El cortometraje "Dicen que tu padre" de Aitor Abio se lleva dos premios
“Dicen que tu padre” triumphs at the 23rd Versión Española / SGAE Competition with two awards, confirming the success of cinema emerging from the ECPV
The short film “Dicen que tu padre” (They Say Your Father), directed by Aitor Abio and produced by the Basque Country Film School (ECPV), continues to establish itself as a major breakout hit in Spanish short filmmaking in 2026, having won two significant awards at the 23rd Versión Española / SGAE Foundation Ibero-American Short Film Competition.
The film secured the competition's Second Prize, as well as the Best Actress Award for its lead, Izaro Nieto. This achievement took place at one of the most prestigious short film competitions on the national scene—an event that, starting with this edition, has become a qualifying festival for the Goya Awards, further enhancing the value of the recognition.
Recognition for a new generation of filmmakers
This double win represents a major boost for Aitor Abio, an emerging name in Basque cinema. Trained at the Basque Country Film School (ECPV), the director had previously garnered attention with *Patrimonio* (selected for the Kimuak program). With *Dicen que tu padre*, he once again demonstrates remarkable narrative maturity, crafting an intimate story that explores the weight of family silence through the eyes of two sisters.
The production, driven by the ECPV, reflects the model the school has been developing for years: transforming the educational process into a platform for professional creation, where students, faculty, and industry professionals collaborate to develop projects with a successful track record at national and international festivals.
