Gaua, by Paul Urkijo, and Jone, Batzuetan, by Sara Fantova, are included on the list of films pre-selected for the 2026 Feroz Awards in the Feroz Arrebato Fiction category. However, the five nominated works in both fiction and non-fiction will not be announced until mid-December.

The Spanish Association of Film Journalists has been presenting the Feroz Awards since 2014. The next edition will take place in Pontevedra on January 24.

Gaua: Basque mythology through the eyes of Paul Urkijo

Gaua is set between historical reality and the fantastical world of Basque mythology. Kattalin ends up becoming part of the very stories and frightening legends she used to hear as a child.

The film features the involvement of alumni from the Basque Country Film School (ECPV) as part of its production team. Among the most notable names are Jon Solana, Sendoa Elejalde, Aritza Munárriz, and Leo La Fuente, all of whom contributed their talent and experience to the project.

Jone, Batzuetan: the film that has brought attention to Sara Fantova

Jone, Batzuetan, Sara Fantova’s coming-of-age film, follows Jone’s transition into adulthood. The sense of invincibility she experiences with Olga, her first love, clashes with her father’s illness during Aste Nagusia, Bilbao’s major festival week.

The Basque Country Film School (ECPV) is a co-producer of Jone, Batzuetan, marking the school’s second production of the year, following Gaubela by Iker Reyes.

These are the other 13 pre-selected films:

Aro berria, by Irati Gorostidi Agirretxe
Balearic, by Ion de Sosa
Ciudad sin sueño, by Guillermo Galoe
Decorado, by Alberto Vázquez
El cielo de los animales, by Santi Amodeo
