Professional Experience
Joan Sala holds degrees in Humanities and Audiovisual Communication, as well as an advanced degree in Advertising. In 2008, he began working for the prestigious independent film distributor Cameo as a content editor.
A year later, he started working as an editor at Filmin, Spain’s leading platform for independent cinema, with more than 350,000 users. The project has received widespread recognition, winning the Barcelona City Award, the Sant Jordi Award, and the Time Out Award for the most innovative company in the country. He currently works as curator and editor manager at the company.
In 2010, Filmin launched the Atlàntida Film Fest, where Joan works as a programmer. It was the first film festival to offer its entire program online. By its sixth edition, the festival had more than 140,000 viewers, and the quality and innovation of its programming led the ICAA to name it one of the ten best feature film festivals in Spain.
He also covers the main European film festivals each year, such as Cannes, Berlin, Venice, San Sebastián, and Sitges. Additionally, he has participated as a guest speaker on networking at the Far East Film Festival in Udine, DocsBarcelona, the JamesonNotodoFilmFest, and has served as a jury member at the Another Way Film Festival in Madrid and the ZOOM International TV Fiction Festival in Barcelona.
