Study MASTER'S DEGREE IN CINEMATOGRAPHY in ECPV

What to study to become a filmmaker?

Cinematography is not just technique nor just art: it is a way of thinking. A way of looking at the world, observing time, and creating images that leave a mark. If you want to direct consciously, experiment with language, and develop your own vision, the ECPV Master’s in Cinematography is a space designed for you.

This one-year program offers deep, interdisciplinary, and personalized training that combines theory, practice, critical reflection, and project development. Here you will not only learn to make films: you will learn to think in film.

“Art is a symbol of the universe made visible.” — Andrei Tarkovsky

Why train in cinematography?

Because being a filmmaker today requires more than mastering cameras or directing actors. It means understanding visual language, questioning narrative forms, building from intuition but with structure. This master’s focuses on what is essential: the search for your own voice, the dialogue between thought and form, and the freedom to explore new territories.

During the course, you will develop your own film project, participate in experimental workshops, reflect on the craft from multiple disciplines, and collaborate with other creators.

What will you learn in the master’s?

  • Theory and practice of audiovisual dramaturgy.
  • Cinematic language, image ethics, and visual construction.
  • Actor direction from text, body, and emotion.
  • Practical workshops with cameras, lenses, lighting, and sound.
  • Narrative editing, color grading, and postproduction techniques.
  • Critical reflection and cinematographic thought.
  • Guidance in developing your final project.

Comprehensive, creative, and demanding training

The ECPV Master’s in Cinematography is structured in three stages: conceptual exploration, formal research, and production. Throughout this creative journey, you will work transversally in directing, scriptwriting, editing, cinematography, and sound, developing a complete vision of the filmmaking process.

The approach is empirical, experimental, and humanistic. You will have personalized tutoring, classes taught by active professionals, and access to professional equipment in a real cinematographic production environment.

Who is this master’s for?

For people with training or experience in Audiovisual Communication, Fine Arts, cinema, or other creative disciplines, as well as professionals who wish to deepen, reconnect, or redefine their approach as filmmakers.

What career paths does this master’s offer?

By the end, you will have developed your own short film, participated in multiple shooting practices, and acquired deep technical and conceptual knowledge. You will be qualified to work as:

  • Film and audiovisual director.
  • Screenwriter or visual author.
  • Creative professional in directing, cinematography, or editing departments.
  • Researcher or independent creator in auteur cinema.

And above all, you will have taken a step further in building a vision, the one that turns a technician into an artist and a student into a filmmaker.
